AFRO-CUBAN SCHOOL OF DANCE AND MUSIC

The aim of the Afro-Cuban School is to provide a genuine and high standard of tuition and cultural exchange in order to promote and preserve Cuban music world-wide.

Kenny López and Aimeé Colás direct The Afro-Cuban School of Dance and Music which specializes in teaching classes and workshops in Cuban dance styles and Cuban Music..Many Melbourne musicians who aspire to play Cuban music have benefited from classes with top ranking Cuban maestros organised by the school who have been touring Australia.These teachers include El Maracaibo José Castañeda, Guillermo Rubalcaba, Jorge Boulet,Carlos de Marcos(Buena Vista Social Club),Oderquis Revé and Julito Padrón from the Bar at Buena Vista show. Luis Valle,the Cuban trumpet virtuoso with whom Kenny López has the international latin jazz group Afro-Timba(see Bands www.kennylopez.com)and Peruchín,the famous piano player from Cubanismo and NG La Banda.

Workshops at festivals such Port Fairy have been a great success in demonstrating to people how the Cuban music and dance styles are connected using the band with Aimeé Colás teaching the cuban salsa moves.Salsa came from Cuba so why not learn the style from somebody who grew up dancing to it.

Percussion Classes and workshops are with Rodolfo Hechevarría (El Panga) who came from Cuba with Lady Salsa and Sonora de La Calle and is now residing. in Melbourne.

Learn how to put a band together playing the polyrythms of: son,salsa,timba,bolero,cha,cha,cha found in Cuban Music.Group or private classes in:claves, bongos, congas, maracas, guiro, timbales, batá drums, Guitar, Tres, Piano Trumpet, Trombone.
